2019 FRYSC AmeriCorps

Extended School Closure Guidance - Coronavirus Version

In early March 2020 the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, began to spread in several highly populated areas in the US. There are a handful of cases in Kentucky as of March 9, 2020. Response in some communities includes school closures. The potential for Kentucky school closures will increase throughout the month.

FRYSC AmeriCorps service is focused on our partner schools.  We have guidance for our service members and site supervisors to create a plan to allow our members to continue their service commitment. This information offers ideas to keep busy and steps to properly document that activity.

The closure guidance is linked to the right. The other buttons are links to information from the KY Department of Public Health's official COVID-19 page and the Centers for Disease Control about personal and household preparedness. Please read these materials thoroughly to create your own health management plan. Then share this public health information with your families, friends and communities.

What do FRYSC Corps Members do?

Our tutors build foundational literacy skills by working one-on-one or with small groups of students providing the practice opportunities capable readers need.

Our youth and literacy members develop their professional skills through their support of host Family Resource and Youth Services Centers. Nearly all of our members are addressing food insecurity by providing weekend and holiday food assistance for students at their schools

AmeriCorps gets things done! Service in schools leads members to learn more about the people and support systems in their towns and cities. Our members engage others in service to meet some basic needs of children and families.
