What do FRYSC Corps Members do?
Our tutors build foundational literacy skills by working one-on-one or with small groups of students providing the practice opportunities capable readers need.
Our youth and literacy members develop their professional skills through their support of host Family Resource and Youth Services Centers. Nearly all of our members are addressing food insecurity by providing weekend and holiday food assistance for students at their schools
AmeriCorps gets things done! Service in schools leads members to learn more about the people and support systems in their towns and cities. Our members engage others in service to meet some basic needs of children and families.

FRYSC Corps Feeding Kids!
One of the fundamental goals of FRYSC Corps is removing nonacademic barriers to learning. Wondering where your next meal will come from is a barrier too many children face each day. Our partners, Family Resource and Youth Services Centers, make it their business to make sure kids do not go hungry when they head home on weekends and holidays.
Our FRYSC AmeriCorps, both youth members and literacy tutors, take on the task of sending food home. Our members connect with community partners and organize donations. Each week they pack food parcels and deliver them to students before they head home. During long breaks and weather days our FRYSCs will often drop off food with kids who would struggle without it.
We are extremely proud of the compassion and initiative of our AmeriCorps members!
