Just what does a FRYSC Corps member do?

Our members help their host sites meet the needs specific to the community instead of a one-size fits all mission. Member service includes FRYSC support, tutoring, volunteer recruitment and management, and project planning that help meet the basic needs of students and families.

Our YSC Corps provides high school students a chance to learn professional skills while serving. These dedicated students help their host FRYSC provide weekend and holiday food assistance to students in their own schools. Check out the members at our Partner Sites.

Literacy and other tutoring services

FRYSC Support

The primary focus for FRYSC Corps literacy tutors is to provide literacy support for students.

Members have the goals of:

  • Helping students meet or exceed their expected reading goals.

  • Provide at least 13 hours of added literacy support for each student each semester.

  • Planning and supporting literacy events.

  • Recruiting volunteers excited to help kids read better!

Members give their energy and skills to their host FRYSC, after-school programs and schools to help increase services for children and families.

  • Frequent FRYSC Corps Projects are:

    • Weekend meal backpacks

    • Family reading nights

    • Holiday assistance

    • Collection drives (e.g. food, clothing, toiletries, cleaning supplies)

    • After-school tutoring, mentoring and meals

    • Home visits

Community Service and Volunteer Opportunities

FRYSC Corps members build relationships in the communities they serve by volunteering and connecting others with volunteer opportunities with local homeless or domestic violence shelters, food banks, community kitchens, community education centers, senior centers and other non-profit partners who provide services to children and families.
